Annapolis, Maryland

A memorial in honor of Kunta Kinte immortalized
by Alex Haley in Roots.

Some local talent tuning up their guitars.

A local artist painting prior to boarding the tour boat.

About one hour later....
A small portion of the dock.
Random boat shots...love, love boating!

The courtyard at the USNA.

The Formast of the USS Maine is installed at the
US Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
The Main mast can be found at Arlington National Cemetary,
in Arlington, Virginia, section 46.
The distance between these two masts,
is often referred to as the "longest ship in the Navy."

Still on patrol - Courage runs deep (displayed on the other side of the torpedo).
The Mark XIV torpedo on display at the US Naval Academy.

Surf rowing?  Not sure...
The YP682 is a training craft for the USNA.

USNA Chapel Dome

There is no substitute!

  1. Very nice shots. I like the crop of the dome pic. Also, coincidentally, I've seen the other part of that mast at Arlington! Never knew the story though...

  3. I've visited quit a few places around DC, but have not yet made it to Annapolis. I had read about the Alex Haley statue and realized in the movie Roots they leave from Annapolis to Africa to get slaves. I like history and it looks like a little research and a visit to Annapolis is just the ticket.
